Back up your work

Dear all,

If you did not do so, please make sure you come into digital lab 111 and copy your semesters work to an external device (usb drive, external hard drive, etc). On Friday, the College of Art and Design IT guys will come in and wipe the iMacs of all content, in order to start afresh for the Fall. 

If you do not back up your work – it will be gone forever!

Photomerge Step-by-step

1. Open Photoshop

2. File > Automate > Photomerge…

3. In the Photomerge dialogue box, leave “Layout” as Auto (left column), select your source files and leave “Blend Images Together” checked (center column). Hit “OK”.

4. Sit back and watch Photoshop do it’s magic. You should now see a number of layers (your separate photos), each containing a layer mask.

5. You may have some inconsistent edges, and most likely some inconsistent coloring. You adjustment layers and blend modes to fix.

6. Once you are satisfied with your panoramic image, copy all of the existing layers onto 1 new layer. The shortcut for this is: Shift Option Command E. Photoshop’s best shortcut!

7. Copy this layer (Command A, Command C) and then open a new document: Width 17″ Height 11″ 150 pixels per inch.

8. Paste your panoramic image into the new document (Command V).

9. Resize your panoramic to fit the 17 x 11. Command T to activate the transform box, and Shift Option drag to resize.

Hi all,

You may find this link interesting, it’s a Google search of Shepard Fairey’s work (mostly work, some parodies of it too). Shepard Fairey designed the Obama “Hope” poster during the election campaign, but I’d like you to take a close look at the graphic power Fairey wields with basic geometric shapes and repetition.

Mandala Assignment

Hi all,

Find examples of Mandala patterns / illustrations online.

Pick 2 that you like / don’t like and critique them.

Provide an explanation as to what it is about that mandala you like (or dislike). Consider patterns, textures, color schemes and any imagery used. If there is an explanation from the artist, perhaps say weather you think their design works (or doesn’t) for the given concept.

Send the links and critiques for each mandala to me in an email (pwinfi2@tigers.lsu.edu).

Deadline for this assignment is 07/13 (final hand in day), but you’re advised to do this assignment first before you start on your own artwork!

Hi all,

Come in tomorrow morning and save your current photoshop compositions as jpegs. Print the jpeg file on tabloid (11×17) and then head up to the studio on the 2nd floor.
